Friendly Competition for the Whole Community

The event draws people from all over the islands and afar. Some come to watch the spectacle of kites fluttering in the wind, others to soak in the ambiance and culture, and then there are those who chase the adrenaline rush of victory.

Competitors attend the event annually trying to best their prior years’ efforts. Prizes are handed out for Largest and Smallest Kites, Most Artistic, Best Traditional, and a group prize for Best Company Kite. There’s a certain sense of pride among the competitors many of whom have known each other’s successes and failures in prior years…and each year the fierce competition is tempered with spirited camaraderie and soaring fun.

But no matter how competitive it gets during the event, the weekend is a spectacular community effort focused singulary on having a great time.
