St. Patrick’s Day Activities on Grace Bay Beach

Fun Activities on Grace Bay Beach to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

There are many Grace Bay Beach activities where the words “go green” mean environmentally friendly ideas like, beach cleanup, reducing gas emissions or using biodegradable products. But one event in March prompts all islanders to go green, as in St. Patrick’s Day green.

While it may seem incongruous with the tropical setting of the Turks and Caicos islands, St. Patrick’s Day is extremely popular and is celebrated everywhere on the island.

St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl on Providenciales

One annual event that has been happening now for 20 years is the St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl which has four stops on the island. Festivities usually begin at the Tiki Hut located at the Turtle Cove Marina, about a nine minute drive from Villa Del Mar, and finish up Danny Buoy’s on Grace Bay Road. The other two pub sites vary from year to year. Previous participants include Sharkbite Bar & Grill, Bonnie’s and the Cactus Bar.

“Second to Hallowe’en, I think it’s one of the biggest nights out on the island,” says Shannon Myers, General Manager at Sharkbite Bar & Grill.

Dining, Drinking and Dancing on St. Patrick’s Day on Provo

St. Patrick’s Day which commemorates the patron saint St. Patrick is an Irish holiday that dates back to the fifth century. But you don’t have to dig too deep to find a bit ‘o the Irish on Providenciales.

Paul Quinn, Chef of The Vix Bar and Grill hails from Dublin, and as described in this article in Travel Dreams Magazine, if you swing by his restaurant on March 17th, you’ll probably get the chance to taste Quinn’s famous Bacon and Cabbage or Guinness Pie, along with the usual creative Caribbean cuisine featured on his menu. On St. Patrick’s Day in 2013 Quinn prepared an amazing authentic Irish menu for the Emerald Ball held at the Regent Palms, a charity event which raised funds for the Senior Citizens of Turks and Caicos Islands.

No list of activities on Grace Bay Beach for St. Patrick’s Day would be complete without Danny Buoy’s, a classic Irish Pub. It’s only a five minute drive from Villa Del Mar, and festivities are typically in full swing with special drinks, party hats and favours and two bands providing great music so guests can dance the night away.

So if you happen to be on Providenciales on the 17th of March, be sure to celebrate some of the “green” hospitality on the “emerald isle of the Caribbean”.
