Top Activities For Young Children in Turks & Caicos

Part 1 – Traveling With Children Under 6

The Turks and Caicos Islands have quickly become a favourite destination for travelers from all over the world including those with young families. Providenciales was awarded the 2016 Trip Advisor Travellers’ Choice Top 10 Islands – World. So what is there for kids to do and what do you as a parent need to know if you’re traveling in the islands? This is the first of a series of articles to give tips to travelers who are looking for top activities for young children in Turks & Caicos during their vacation.

You think about sinking your toes into the soft fine sand. You can almost feel the warmth of the Caribbean sun on your face and see the clear blue waters stretching for miles. And then a voice interrupts, “Honey, where’s that extra pack of diapers I bought?”

This part in the series will focus on vacation activities on Providenciales if you are traveling with children under 6 years of age.

Choose A Family Friendly Property

Let’s start our family vacation guide for young children with Villa del Mar which provides a variety of family friendly services right on Grace Bay Beach, TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award for #1 Top 25 Beaches in the World. There is a specially designated guest area of the beach where you can relax on lounge chairs and your little ones can play with toys and inflatables provided by the resort. There are also umbrellas to keep the young ones shaded from the Caribbean sun. Villa del Mar attendants will assist you with beverage service, fresh linens or information about fun excursions.

Family friendly resorts Turks and Caicos

Fully equipped suites with kitchens and laundry at Villa del Mar help little ones and their parents establish routines away from home and plan family meals while experiencing a beach holiday that the whole family will love.

Sapodilla Bay

A 20 minute drive from Villa del Mar is Sapodilla Bay Beach which not only boasts soft sands and pristine waters, but also a quieter atmosphere.

“We visited Sapodilla Bay and were immediately taken by the beauty and tranquility of it; the place looks as if you’d stepped into a postcard,” said one TripAdvisor reviewer.

Sapodilla is smaller than Grace Bay Beach and is a more private area where you can relax and your little ones can putter about on the sand. Referred to as the Children’s Beach, the water is very shallow and stretches out for miles allowing plenty of room for exploring, safe play at the water’s edge, strolling, or building sandcastles.

Taylor Bay

Another ideal site for young families is Taylor Bay Beach. This shallow bay is near Sapodilla Bay about a 20 minute drive from Villa del Mar. Here the water is clean and clear and the soft sands reach for miles. Also, unlike Sapodilla Bay Beach, there is a public washroom on site which is very handy for those diaper changes or other toddler washroom needs. Take Chalk Point Drive and then make a left onto Ocean Point Drive. You can get access to the beach via Sunset Bay tennis courts.

Taylor Bay is a quiet beach as its shallow waters make it close to impossible for vessels to venture in leaving you with plenty of room to swim and snorkel.

Undersea Explorer

If you’d like to get out on the water, but you’re concerned about entertaining little ones in a safe environment, a tour with Undersea Explorer is an excellent choice. Located near the Tiki Hut restaurant at Turtle Cove Marina, it’s about a 10 minute drive from Villa del Mar. Toddlers will enjoy gliding along the water on the Undersea Explorer and getting a chance to see wild turtles below deck.

“We took our three year old since he wasn’t ready to snorkel and he loved seeing the fish, turtles, and rays!”3 said one reviewer with TripAdvisor.

Youngsters will also thrill at the sight of Mermaid Bella on the Mermaid Adventure Tour.

The semi submarine vessel travels along the water surface, but guests sit in a cabin five feet below and can see the underwater world through their own viewing window. You can book your adventure by calling 649-231-0006.

On the land or above or below the sparkling waters, there are all kinds of opportunities for memorable experiences with these top activities for young children in Turks & Caicos.
